Mayor appoints head of legacy team
London mayor Boris Johnson has announced a new appointment as part of his aim to ensure the 2012 Olympics deliver lasting benefits for the capital.
David Gregson, a private equity investor, will take on the role of chairman of the Legacy Board of Advisors.
He will head up a team focusing on the physical regeneration of the city, as well as maximising the impact of the sporting, educational and cultural effects of the Games.
Mr Johnson explained that he is placing priority on "ensuring that the Olympic Park has a sustainable legacy and becomes a landmark district of 21st century London, which Londoners and visitors to our city can use and prosper from".
He has also appointed chief executive of Sainsbury's Justin King to be his representative on the Olympic organising committee, with the aim of making the event itself a "spectacular" one.
The Department for Transport recently stated that the Games will improve transport infrastructure in London, with upgrades to junctions and traffic signalling.
