Mayor announces Olympic legacy team
Boris Johnson announced the names of his Olympic legacy team yesterday.
The mayor revealed who the people are that he is entrusting with the task of ensuring the games in 2012 provide the best possible lasting consequences for Londoners, particularly in areas around the stadium such as Newham and Hackney.
Carphone Warehouse deputy chairman David Ross will chair the board of legacy advisors to Mr Johnson.
Other members include the chairman of the Homes and Communities Agency Sir Bob Kerslake, London Development Agency chair Harvey McGrath and former Olympic javelin thrower Tessa Sanderson, who won gold in the 1984 games.
Mr Johnson said: "I'm looking to David Ross, supported by this new Board, to act as the legacy champion bringing together people from many different backgrounds and ensuring we make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
One legacy that may already be close to being secured is the establishment of a Chinese university in East London.
Boris Johnson has been in talks with Chinese universities over the possibility of setting up such an institution in Hackney near the Olympic media centre in conjunction with a top London university, the Evening Standard reported yesterday.
