London stations in new safety drive
A number of rail stations in London will become safer due to extra manning at night, it has been announced.
The government has said the advent next year of the new South Central franchise will see more stations in South London manned at night.
In addition to this, there will be refurbishments at all South London stations, more CCTV, 1,000 extra parking spaces and 1,500 more cycling bays in addition to extra trains.
Transport minister Andrew Adonis said: "We want all rail passengers to receive an excellent service and that is why we have worked closely with rail user groups such as Passenger Focus to develop these requirements."
Such developments could be advantageous for those living in South London boroughs such as Wandsworth, Southwark, Lewisham and Greenwich.
West London has just had the boost of the opening of the Wood Lane underground station on the Hammersmith & City line, which Transport for London states is the first new station on an existing line for 70 years.
