London road improvement planned
An agreement has been reached to help ensure the smooth operation of roads in London during the 2012 Olympics.
The Highways Agency and the Olympics Development Authority (ODA) announced that they have drawn up a memorandum of understanding, outlining the ways they will work together.
Through this, it is hoped that the sharing of expertise will contribute to a network that continues to run smoothly after the Games' completion.
Hugh Sumner, transport director at the ODA, said: "Making this agreement more than three years ahead of the Games is testament to all the detailed planning going into London 2012 transport," adding that the Highways Agency "will play a key role" in keeping people moving during the Olympics.
Included in the memorandum are plans for the two bodies to work together on design as well as construction and operation of the road network.
Last month work began to improve London Overground services ahead of the Games, with a total of £326 million being invested.
