London Olympics 'will boost tourism'
Those working in London's tourism sector are set to receive a significant boost as a result of the 2012 Olympics, it has been noted.
According to Dee Doocey, chair of the London Assembly's economic development, culture, sport and tourism committee, the Games will attract a vast number of visitors to the capital.
She explained that organisers are working hard to ensure that tourism numbers do not dip during the event itself, as has been the case in other host cities.
And with a range of activities planned and a number of iconic locations for tourists to visit, Ms Doocey added that it will serve as an advertisement for the capital.
"The Olympics is going to be an absolutely wonderful opportunity to get tourists back," she said.
Recent estimates from VisitBritain suggested that the UK economy as a whole will benefit from an additional £2 billion as a result of the Games in 2012, will two-thirds of that expected to come in the four years after the event.
