Home automation 'could save money'
People keen to save money may wish to evaluate where they could become more energy efficient.
Those looking for flats to rent in Islington or another part of London in order to save money on the high cost of buying property in the capital may find they could boost their finances even further by becoming more energy efficient.
Andy Stanford-Clark, master inventor for IBM and visiting professor at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, said being aware of how much water, gas and electricity is used by a building could see bill-payers deciding where the best place to make a cut is.
"I saved approximately one third on my electricity bills since I started monitoring and automating my home. This obviously has reduced my carbon footprint significantly and has saved me money too," he explained.
Home automation is currently being carried out in a small German town as part of a European Union-funded project.
