H&F uses YouTube to trump tax cuts
Hammersmith & Fulham (H&F) has taken an innovative approach to raising awareness of its latest round of council tax cuts.
Staff from the West London borough have appeared in a 60-second video about the budget measure posted on YouTube, in which they sing a cover version of Status Quo's classic song 'Down, Down'.
H&F became the first London borough to propose three per cent council tax rate cuts for two years running and the YouTube video is a light-hearted attempt at raising awareness of the move among prospective residents.
Council chief Stephen Greenhalgh said that in addition to providing some comical entertainment for net-savvy local residents, the online medium also had a significant cost-saving impact on the borough's spending.
"This is an authority that has slashed the communications budget by £600,000," Mr Greenhalgh noted. "We are the only authority in London to be spending less on communications that we did ten years ago."
H&F is one of the few boroughs in London which has received the Audit Commission's four-star rating for quality of our services to local residents.
