Effect of credit crunch on regeneration in London and UK to be examined
A study of the impact of the global credit crunch on regeneration in the UK has been commissioned by a local government minister.
John Healey has called on experts to examine how projects, business models and long-term strategies could be influenced by international economic conditions.
The study is part of efforts to maintain regeneration efforts that have been developed in London and other parts of the UK over the last ten years, and aims to galvanise the government's commitment to continuing the transformation of Britain's most run down areas.
Michael Parkinson of Liverpool John Moores University will lead the research team, which will be drawn from a panel of 50 experts at the university.
"The tightening of credit, uncertainty in the housing market and slower economic growth could all have an impact on regeneration investments - I want to make sure we understand these risks," Mr Healey said.
He added: "I will be looking for the study to ensure we can both cope with any short-term consequences and maintain investment confidence for the longer term."
