Council tax help for Kensington & Chelsea residents
Kensington & Chelsea council is providing residents with a one off payment of £50.
The money is being given to those who pay council tax as an efficiency dividend and is due to be received in April.
According to the body, the move is designed to offset a 3.2 per cent rise and is being delivered in this way because a rebate would be spread over ten months.
Leader of the council Merrick Cockell explained that the payment is likely to particularly help those on lower incomes.
"It can provide a stimulus to the local economy if, as we would hope, those who spend it will do so locally," he added.
Funding for the measure is coming from savings of £5.4 million that the council has made over the last year.
Earlier this week the council announced that work had begun on the area around South Kensington Station, with the aim of improving traffic conditions by switching from a one-way system to a two-way system.
