Colindale: Accessible and friendly
Situated conveniently on the Northern Line and boasting excellent local facilities, Colindale is a great option for people looking for property to rent in London.
Just eight miles north of Charing Cross, it is well served by the London Underground, trains and buses, making it extremely convenient for commuters and theatregoers alike.
There are plenty of excellent pubs and restaurants in Colindale, especially in the bustling surroundings of Edgware Road, while the generally friendly atmosphere makes for a pleasant shopping experience.
Nearby attractions include the Royal Air Force Museum London, which boasts an historical aircraft collection and an extensive film library.
Admission is to the museum is free and events take place there all year round.
Watling Market, which takes place weekly in Burnt Oak station car park, is also well worth a look, especially for those with an eye for a bargain.
Rummaging around the many stalls here can be a rewarding experience, particularly for people with an eye out for pre-loved quirky furniture, household goods and fresh food.
One of the capital's most famous clothing makers is located here too, having provided the outfits for a whole host of movie stars over the years.
Angels The Costumiers is on Garrick Road and the tour of its warehouse and studios is a visual treat for all ages.
For parents with young children, this is a great area boasting a number of excellent schools.
One of these is Colindale Primary School, which has recently undergone major redevelopment work to make it environmentally sustainable, using natural ventilation, external glazing and light wells to reduce energy consumption.
Parts of Colindale were highlighted by Mayor of London Boris Johnson in his London Plan as a 'proposed area of intensification'.
Consequently, Barnet Council has drawn up a Colindale Area Action Plan, which is geared up to ensure housing, employment, leisure, community facilities and infrastructure provision is developed appropriately.
Perhaps one of the best aspects of Colindale is its close proximity and easy access to the centre of London.
There, visitors and residents alike can enjoy the sights and sounds, from the theatre district to its world-renowned shopping and restaurants.
Leafy Hampstead is just a few stops away on the Northern Line, while a little bit further along lies the eclectic melting pot that is Camden.
To the south-east are uber-fashionable suburbs Dalston and Shoreditch and Islington's bustling Upper Street.
Meanwhile, the fact that the M1 passes right by the area means the rest of the UK via that or the M25 is within easy reach by car.
