Can tenants save money with new lighting?
While Britons may be being urged to become more energy efficient, people renting may be wondering how they can make changes when it is their landlord's responsibility to choose and purchase heating and other household products.
However, the Guardian has claimed that there are ways all Britons can lead more efficient lives, no matter what their budgets.
It recommends that people turn their attentions to their home lighting and that making use of natural illumination is one of the best ways of saving energy and reducing electricity bills.
"So-called 'sun pipes', which focus light down a mirrored Tube, are becoming increasingly popular and brighten darker areas such as stairwells even on the darkest days," the newspaper explained.
It added that Britons should also replace their old inefficient bulbs with new low-energy ones, as these could save up to £37 a year on electricity bills.
People looking for flats to rent in Notting Hill or another part of London may find that taking such action gives them more money to spend on enjoying life in the capital.
They may also wish to ask their landlord about any renovations they would consider to make a property more energy efficient - such as having a condensing boiler fitted.
