Borough Market wins award
Borough Market in London has been awarded the 'best speciality market' award by the National Association of British Market Authorities (Nabma).
Speaking at a special breakfast at Roast Restaurant in Borough Market, Nabma chief executive Graham Wilson said the market was worthy of the accolade given its status as a "landmark institution" within the capital.
The wholesale and retail food market in Southwark is widely regarded as one of the best sources for fresh produce in the capital, with many of the country's most established farmers using the centre to showcase their food.
Community website london-se1.co.uk quoted George Nicholson, a trustee of the market, as saying: "We were thrilled to get this award, particularly since it comes from our peers in the nation's market industry."
He added: "It has already won a number of awards and it makes a significant contribution to the community it serves. In terms of the food offer, it is probably unrivalled in any part of the country."
Borough Market was also recently crowned London's Best Market and Best Shopping Experience in the Evening Standard London awards.
