Boris spies Wandsworth regeneration
Plans to create a mixed-use scheme on the banks of the River Wandle have been approved by Wandsworth Council.
The third and final phase of Riverside Quarter will be completed by Frasers Property and will be known as Gardens at Riverside Quarter.
Frasers will pay for work which will widen the Wandle where it meets the River Thames as part of the scheme, Property Week reports.
The company will be creating 120,000 sq ft of commercial and leisure space, as well as almost 400 apartments.
Designed by MAKE and Carey Jones architects, the scheme will also include a gym, a leisure centre and a pool.
The approval for the last stage of Riverside Quarter will be likely to provide a boost to the proposals made by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, to open up the 'lost' rivers of the capital.
Mr Johnson said in a speech earlier this month that the city could become a cooler place during the warmer months if stretches of underground river were unearthed.
