Young Londoners propose crime tackling measures
Young people in London have been praised for proposing ideas to reduce crime.
Over 240 youngsters responded with their views after Mayor of London Boris Johnson called for suggestions to help tackle youth crime.
And youth ambassador James Cleverly remarked: "There's no-one better than young people themselves to advise on tackling youth crime and it is brilliant that so many youngsters have got involved and given us their views."
Noting that "sheer boredom" was cited as one of the reasons for people to offend, he drew attention to organisations such as London Youth - which manages 400 youth clubs in the capital.
A greater range of activities being made available was one of the popular suggestions, as was the imposition of longer prison sentences for offenders.
Mr Cleverly was appointed to his role last month, with Mr Johnson explaining that addressing violent crime and promoting alternatives to gang culture would be some of his main priorities.
