Young Londoners praised for fire fighting skills
Young people in London have been praised for their performance in the Local Intervention Fire Education (Life) programme organised by the London Fire Brigade.
Over 70 youngsters from across the capital took part in the five-day intensive course at the Brigade's Southwark Training Centre.
Now in its second year, the number of people who took part in the course has doubled, with all of this year's attendees receiving the Jack Petchey Outstanding Achievement Award by London fire commissioner Ron Dobson.
"The Brigade's Life scheme has made a positive difference to the lives of thousands of young people across London," Mr Dobson said.
He added that the course also serves to foster "a sense of social responsibility".
Furthermore, the Jack Petchey Charitable Trust makes a financial contribution to the Life scheme for every award presented.
The London Fire Brigade was recently named as the UK's top gay friendly fire and rescue service in Stonewalls' latest Workplace Equality Index.
