Walthamstow residents encouraged to 'get inspired'
People living in Walthamstow are being urged by the Cleveland Park Residents' Association to get creative and participate in the new design for a vacant site in the community.
Those who are considering property to rent in Walthamstow may wish to participate in the "mass-participation art project", which is open to people of all age groups, the Waltham Forest Guardian reported.
Spokeswoman Caramel Quinn of the community group said that the scheme is intended "to inspire residents to dream up their own ideas for long-term use of the site".
The site she is referring to is the long-vacant Arcade, which is located on the corner of Hoe Street and Walthamstow High Street.
Among the temporary use plans being considered for the area are a performance space, a site for the local farmers' market to expand or a children's play area.
Interested residents can submit their ideas at a number of local businesses or post them via postcard to the Rose & Crown pub, which is located on Hoe Street.
Waltham Forest Council has suggested that, in the long term, the former Arcade site could be home to a fitness centre and swimming pool, in addition to a cinema.
