Walthamstow residents complete community project
An exhibition celebrating the local community has been unveiled in Walthamstow.
Residents with learning difficulties took part in the photography project which saw them explore the area for inspiration, reports the Waltham Forest Guardian.
Members of Walthamstow's 247 group were photographed by artist Rachel I'Anson, who told the paper: “The aim was to show users doing activities which some people may take for granted, but for members are more difficult."
Head of learning disabilities for Waltham Forest and Redbridge Council Sheenagh Burgess added: "It is not about disability, it is about ability."
The exhibition entitled It's My Life, I'm Living My Life showcases members' commitment to the community and sees them taking part in activities such as working in a shop or community gardening. People living in property to rent in Walthamstow can take in the exhibition at the community's Markhouse Centre.
Further activities for locals with learning difficulties are offered at the facility, which is a day centre providing access to services including art, drama and music therapy.
