Walking in London 'to get easier'
Trials of a system aimed at making it easier for people in the City of Westminster to find their way around are to be extended.
Legible London is a scheme using three-dimensional maps and street signs to help people establish their bearings and work out where it is they need to go.
And Transport for London (TFL) has announced that the trial, which has been successful in the Bond Street area, is now to be introduced for Regent Street and Oxford Street.
Mayor Boris Johnson noted that many people choose to use the Tube or other transport options rather than walk to their destination.
"I used to think that some of these people were just crackers but it seems that many people actually don't realise how close these places are," he said.
Last week TFL backed plans to introduce a cycle hire scheme across the capital, which would see bicycles being made available at 400 different locations.
