Utility firm code of conduct 'to cut congestion' for those living in flats to rent in Hammersmith
Utility companies operating in London have signed up to a new code of conduct aimed at reducing congestion.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson revealed that the pledge is designed to ensure that disruption is minimised through better coordination of work and the provision of notice.
The code includes a requirement to display information boards when roads are being dug up and those living in property in Hammersmith and across the capital are being encouraged to report instances where this is not adhered to.
"None of us can escape the frustration of sitting with engine idling or pedal poised at roadworks manned by an invisible army of workers," said Mr Johnson, adding that although there is often a good reason for this, "sometimes there is not".
Last month, Transport for London announced that £1 million is being invested in car clubs in the capital, in order to reduce congestion by allowing residents to hire vehicles.
