Transport links improved in Merton
People living in the London borough of Merton are benefiting from the opening of a brand new train station.
Mitcham Eastfields opened its gates to passengers this Monday, June 2nd, connecting the area to National Rail trains operating on the Southern and First Capital Connect networks.
The facility is situated in Zone 3 within walking distance of Mitcham town centre. It is reportedly the first suburban station to open in South London since the Second World War.
Construction was carried out by the Balfour Beatty-owned firm Dean & Dyball at a cost of £6 million and - though already fully operational - upgrade work will continue into next month.
Mitcham Eastfields is also the first newly-developed station to feature green 'modular components', with the station's ticket office and waiting area being constructed out of recycled materials.
Analysts say the new transport link is expected to have a positive impact on demand for property to rent in Merton.
