Tower Hamlets home to London's best park
Tower Hamlet's expansive Victoria Park has been named "London's Perfect Park" by Time Out magazine.
The park was ranked in top spot - just above Ravenscourt Park in Hammersmith & Fulham - due to its attractive combination of tranquillity and entertainment for children.
The news is set to alert those looking to rent a property in the capital, who may also be attracted by Tower Hamlets' mix of traditional east end culture and modern business environments.
Councillor Abdal Ullah said: "It's great to top the Time Out table of London's best parks.
"Steeped in history, Victoria Park is enjoyed by the whole community. From play areas and skate parks to festivals, sports facilities, monuments and wildlife, the borough's well-loved open space is a worthy winner."
Originally conceived by James Pennethorne in 1841, Victoria Park was the result of a petition signed by 30,000 east enders delivered personally to the Queen of the time.
Various east end boroughs such as Greenwich, Newham and Hackney are set to benefit from the coming 2012 London Olympics.
