Tottenham riverside regeneration begins
Three brand new business barges have been docked at Tottenham's Hale Wharf, ushering in a new era of regeneration for the River Lee.
The London Development Agency and British Waterways have joined forces to launch the £1 million scheme, which aims to encourage commercial interests to move into the area.
Accommodation has been set aside specifically for small businesses and plans are afoot to expand the new flotilla - currently comprising Renaissance, Judith and Belle - into a thriving waterfront urban centre.
Commenting on the latest additions to the scenic riverside, Tav Kazmi, regeneration projects manager for British Waterways, said that the floating work spaces would be ideally suited to businesses operating in the creative, cultural and high-tech industries.
He added: "These striking commercial barges are part of a plan to breathe new life into the area's waterway and provide a distinctive and modern working environment in the heart of one of the Capital's principal growth areas with excellent transport links."
Local authorities in the borough recently launched the Tottenham Partnership drive, which intends to give residents greater say over how regeneration funds are spent.
