Thames Gateway regeneration gathers steam
A plan to create a new residential development in Newham has progressed considerably following the exchange of contracts for the work.
Notting Hill Housing exchanged contracts with Newham Council for the development, which will see Ivax Quays, located in the Thames Gateway region, turned into a number of shared ownership and rented apartments.
The 13 acre waterside site will be dubbed Great Eastern Quays and will also feature nearly 6,000 square metres of public space as well as more than 7,000 metres of commercial space.
Plans to develop the 13-acre site are being drawn up in line with the Albert Basin Development Framework Plan and are part of Notting Hill's commitment to deliver 2,000 new homes every year until 2010.
Fred Nugent, affordable housing programme manager at Newham Council, expressed his delight at the way the area is to be regenerated.
He commented: "We look forward to working closely with Notting Hill Housing to develop a high quality, mixed used scheme that will provide homes, jobs and excellent public realm for the people of Newham.
"We hope it will act as an example to all of our private and public sector partners that Newham is a great place for people to invest, live and work."
Notting Hill Housing has more than 18,000 homes all across the capital and works with over 30 local authorities.
