TfL targets young drivers in latest campaign
A new campaign to improve road safety is being aimed at young people, Transport for London (TFL) has revealed.
The body is intending to reduce the number of accidents involving those between the ages of 17 and 25, with a number of offences being targeted.
In addition to speeding and driving without insurance, drug driving is a focus of the 'Lose your licence and you're just a kid again' campaign.
With nine per cent of young drivers found to believe it is acceptable to drive under the influence of drugs such as cannabis, TFL is hoping to make roads safer for residents by stamping out this perception.
"Drivers throughout the capital should be aware that the police are now trained to test for drug impairment and that the penalties are just as serious as those for drink driving," said head of the organisation's road safety unit Chris Lines.
Last week Mr Lines revealed that new speed camera technology that had been successfully trialled in the borough of Camden would be introduced elsewhere in London.
