TfL launches digital speed map
The latest step in the bid to improve road safety for Londoners has been launched by Transport for London (TFL).
A digital map showing all the capital's speed limits has been made available to drivers, in order to help them comply with the law and therefore reduce collisions.
It can be downloaded from the TFL website for free and integrated onto satellite navigations systems.
Using the technology, motorists can see the accurate, up-to-date speed limit in the area they are in and be alerted if they exceed it.
"This is about helping motorists make their own, informed decisions about the way they drive," said head of TFL's London road safety unit Chris Lines, adding that knowledge of the speed limit at all times "will help them to drive more safely".
The body has estimated that crashes could be reduced by as much as ten per cent if all motorists use the digital speed map.
New speed cameras that are linked wirelessly in order to track vehicles are set to be introduced to the capital following a trial in Camden, it emerged this month.
