Tenants 'should get winter-proofing'
The UK has seen the winter weather arrive over recent days and with more cold snaps forecast, Britons have been advised that now is the time to ensure their homes will be well protected from the elements.
Price comparison site Confused.com asserts that there are a number of steps that people can take to ensure that their properties are not damaged by the cold.
These include leaving their central heating systems running even if they plan to leave their homes empty over the winter break as such a move can prevent the water inside pipes from freezing, causing them to burst.
"Winter is the time when all homeowners want to have nice and cosy homes to use for some respite from the cold and wet elements associated with winter," said Darren Black, head of home insurance at the site.
People looking for flats to rent in Eltham or another part of London may wish to ensure that their new landlord has also carried out work such as clearing the guttering and having the boiler serviced before they move in.
