Sutton regeneration in full swing
The London borough of Sutton launched a regeneration scheme this week that focuses on removing various items of clutter from its streets.
In a bid to improve the area's image and hopefully attract more renters to Sutton property, Your Local Guardian reported that flower pots, cars and benches were all taken away.
Traffic has also been banned from the town centre, with Sutton Council aiming to create a "continental-style boulevard" in an effort to give a new lease of life to the area.
This process includes the creation of more space for pedestrians and cyclists, intending to make the town more comfortable for locals and visitors alike.
Commenting on the regeneration, councillor Lyn Gleeson said that the plans will help to make Sutton one of the most desirable places in London.
She explained: "Sutton town centre is the borough's shop window and this exciting project promises to make it one of London's best retail and entertainment destinations.
"To do that we need to put the right infrastructure in place and the initial de-cluttering work will pave the way for the new programme in the New Year."
Sutton is located in South London, west of Croydon and east of Kingston. It covers an area of more than 16 sq miles and has a population of approximately 184,000.
