Study backs Greenwich for Olympic equestrian site
The original decision to hold the 2012 Olympic equestrian events in Greenwich have been backed by a government-sponsored study, it has been claimed.
Accountancy firm KPMG had been brought in to examine whether the locating of the venue in Greenwich Park should be reconsidered as a way of curbing the rising cost of establishing the venues for the Games and has concluded that it should not be changed, the Evening Standard reports.
The paper adds that a draft of the study has also backed the shooting venue in Woolwich, although the basketball arena is being recommended for relocation to the main Olympic Park across the river in Stratford.
By keeping Greenwich's Olympic venue, the borough may gain substantially in terms of attention and legacy developments.
Such developments could benefit those looking to rent a flat or house in Greenwich.
Figures from the Olympic Delivery Authority this week have revealed that half of the 2,700 people employed in construction work for the venues are from London.
