Southwark residents to see leisure centre improvements
Those living in the London borough of Southwark are set to benefit from improved sporting facilities, following the approval of plans.
Southwark Council has given the go-ahead to £5.5 million worth of refurbishments at Dulwich Leisure Centre, with the first phase of work due to be completed by the end of the year.
A modern gym is set to be installed, while improvements are being made to the swimming pool area.
Executive member for culture, leisure and sport at Southwark Council Lewis Robinson stated a belief that the facilities will benefit health levels and increase engagement in physical activities.
"This is great news for sports enthusiasts in the borough," he said, adding: "Dulwich Leisure Centre is going to be vastly improved and it will hopefully result in a lot more residents coming through the doors."
According to the council, the plans also allow for the restoration of the listed building and the refurbishment of the East Dulwich Road clock tower.
Last month Southwark received praise in three separate government reports, highlighting areas such as regeneration efforts and crimefighting.
