Schools boost house prices
Parents are prepared to pay up to 30 per cent more for properties in catchment areas of popular schools, according to a leading Estate Agent.
Foxtons have revealed that new homes built just yards from schools in the London borough of Haringey are selling for close to £1.8 million, while similar property for sale in the borough - but outside the catchment area - are selling for £1.4 million.
These increases are occurring despite the current crisis in the property markets and the consistent falls in average house prices nationally.
Fortismere School - which is at the top of the league table in Haringey - was recently voted one of the best comprehensive schools in the country and its neighbour Tetherdown Primary is also one of the top 15 primary schools.
Estate Agents, Kinleigh Folkard & Hayward, have said that very few properties go up for sale in the area as residents stay for years.
The house-builder Taylor Wimpey also revealed today (July 2nd) that it expects the UK housing market to remain weak till at least 2009.
