Police presence to increase at London stations
London mayor Boris Johnson has announced that residents of the city's outer boroughs are to benefit from an increased police presence at train stations.
More than £6 million will be invested by Transport for London (TFL) to fund the additional 50 British Transport Police officers.
They will patrol trains as well as over 100 stations, with Croydon and Bromley among the boroughs affected.
Mr Johnson explained that the measure fulfils a promise made during his election campaign and is designed to increase the sense of security felt by those using the capital's trains.
"Everyone has the right to travel safely and free from the fear of crime, no matter what part of London they live in," he said.
Last month TFL revealed that those living in London had benefited from an improved environment, with carbon dioxide emissions per Tube passenger dropping by five per cent over the last year.
