Partner selected for Croydon regeneration
John Laing has been selected as the partner to carry out work on the £450 million regeneration project in the London borough of Croydon.
The infrastructure firm was selected as the preferred partner for the huge project, which will centre on the redevelopment of four council sites and the construction of a brand new council headquarters.
Some 18 other competitors, including Land Securities Trillium, had also been vying for the contract - widely regarded to be one of the most significant regeneration schemes scheduled in the capital.
The first buildings to be replaced will be the council's central office at Taberner House, its Tamworth annex site in west Croydon, and its 1960s office in Fell Road and College Green. New property for sale in Croydon is expected to form the cornerstone of the development.
John Laing will carry out the work using a 50:50 urban regeneration vehicle, which the council cabinet is expected to approve on Monday (June 9) and formally sign-off in October.
Incoming London mayor Boris Johnson last month praised the vision being set out in the Croydon regeneration project.
