Olympic boroughs to get new gyms
Those thinking of moving into the London Olympic host boroughs are being offered the prospect of having more facilities to keep fit with.
A £1 million project has been launched that will see five outdoor gyms constructed to help children enjoy better health, as part of the Olympic legacy, reports the Evening Standard.
Speaking about the project, which the paper is supporting, local athlete and Olympic 400 metres champion Christine Ohurugu said: "The Standard's legacy campaign is so important. I grew up in Stratford and the sports facilities when I was a kid always needed to be continually developed to attract more youngsters to them."
While these new "adiZones", constructed by Olympic sponsors Adidas, are expected to last for 20 years and help the next generation of kids, adults moving into boroughs like Greenwich, Lewisham or Barking and Dagenham will be close to other facilities that the public will be able to enjoy as a legacy of the games.
These will include venues such as the new cycling velodrome, which can help anyone on a bike keep fit and enjoy the sport as well as potentially producing new champions.
Britain's dominance of the track cycling events in Beijing was attributed partly to the quality of the velodrome that already exists in Manchester and is a base for the Great Britain team.
