Notting Hill: Not just for carnivals

Notting Hill: Not just for carnivalsBackground

Notting Hill is located in the Royal borough of Kensington & Chelsea and is famous across the world for, among other things, a 1999 film of the same name and an annual carnival led by the area's Caribbean population.

Aside from these two events which have helped put Notting Hill's name on the map, there are plenty of other reasons to choose flats to rent in the region.

It is close to Chelsea's football ground, Stamford Bridge, and it is seen as one of the best places to shop in the whole of London.

Furthermore, some of the typical West London properties are viewed as the most desirable in the whole of the UK. This is perhaps exemplified by the fact that Mayfair is a neighbouring district, which those of you who like your board games will know is high-end real estate territory.

Property

People looking for property to rent in Notting Hill can find a studio for around £1,148 a month, while one bedroom flats to rent in Notting Hill will cost approximately £1,868.

Anyone looking for more space from their property can secure themselves tenancy agreements for close to £2,769 and £4,680 a month - these figures will pay for three and four-bedroom residences respectively.

Renting is likely to be the most popular living arrangement for young professionals looking to reside in Kensington & Chelsea because the latest Land Registry figures indicated that the average cost of a property to buy in April was £728,183. The average price of flats in the area was said to be £603,326, while detached homes would set back a homebuyer over £2.746 million.

However, values have come down - the average detached property in the borough was worth more than £3.25 million in July 2008.

Transport

Notting Hill has four London Underground stations in close proximity, Westbourne Park, Ladbroke Grove, Latimer Road and Notting Hill Gate. The first three are all located next to each other on the Hammersmith and City Line, while the latter is on the Central Line.

It will take just over 15 minutes for commuters to make their way along the Central Line from Notting Hill Gate to Bank and the heart of London's financial district.

Meanwhile, buses can get commuters or shoppers into Central London and the busy areas of Regents Street and Oxford Street in around half an hour from the same starting point.

Amenities

Perhaps the yearly carnival could be described as the biggest amenity of them all for residents of property to rent in Notting Hill.

Living in the heart of the district will give people easy access to the event, which paints the area a thousand different colours for a few days every summer.

Aside from these festivities, the shops and restaurants on Portobello Road are regarded as some of the finest in Europe. A huge antiques market is also held there, which has proven to be a large draw for the millions of tourists who head to England's capital every year.

Moreover, the high-class shopping facilities of High Street Kensington and Shepherd's Bush are not too far away.

Living this far out in West London is often seen as a fashion choice as much as a practical arrangement.
