Newham gets clock ticking for London Olympics
The London borough of Newham has officially started the countdown to the 2012 Olympic Games.
The Mayor of London Boris Johnson unveiled a digital clock on Tuesday (September 2nd) in Stratford which will not only count down the days to the Games, but also signalled the start of a wider regeneration project.
It is thought that the development of Newham's Olympic Park and other shopping and leisure projects will attract an influx of potential renters to the area.
Boris Johnson said: "We have got the most stunning investment going into Stratford, 18,000 jobs are being created even before the Olympics open."
It is thought that the redevelopment schemes will eventually result in 25,000 sustainable jobs being created in the borough.
The London Docklands area in the borough of Tower Hamlets is also set to see major redevelopment benefits in time for the 2012 Olympic Games.
