New maps 'to improve London Underground journeys'
Londoners are set to benefit from the publication of two new maps for the Underground network.
Tube passengers will be able to consult the maps for information about toilet facilities, as well as step-free access.
A map of stations that have toilets will include details on accessible toilets for wheelchair users, as well as whether they are located inside or outside ticket gates.
The Step-free Tube Guide, meanwhile, will ensure greater information is provided about the accessibility of each station.
Rather than simply showing a wheelchair symbol, it will include green, red or amber symbols to show the height of the step between the train and the platform.
In addition, details about the width of the gap will be given, while new symbols will show where it is possible to change between lines without using steps.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson remarked: "These new maps are designed to make life easier for a wide range of Londoners and visitors."
A total of 87 station refurbishments and modernisations were completed in the 2007-08 financial year, London Underground revealed this month.
