New estate agent blacklist from the OFT
People looking for flats to buy or property to rent in Islington and other areas of London have a new list they can check to see if the Estate Agent they want to use has been blacklisted by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).
The OFT's new online register shows the companies it has taken action against, thus allowing home searchers across the UK to see if they are dealing with a legitimate business.
It comes soon after the Communities and Local Government department announced that it wants to create a private landlord register and the Association of Residential Letting Agents launched a new licensing scheme for letting firms.
All of these moves have been planned to help improve the private rental sector and clamp down on rogue traders.
Mike Haley, OFT director of consumer protection, remarked: "The online register gives consumers direct access to important information explaining where we have taken action against Estate Agents."
