NLA supports move to give tenant more rights
The National Landlords Association (NLA) backs the latest government proposals to give tenants more rights when their landlords default on mortgages.
Media relations manager at the organisation Steve Hilton said that he expects the NLA to be "fully supportive" of the plans during the forthcoming consultation period.
The ideas expressed by the Communities and Local Government department include the creation of a law that allows tenants to stay in their property for two months after a home is repossessed.
It is proposed that this legislation gets implemented if landlords have failed to inform their lender that they are renting out their home.
Any new regulations would be relevant to those in property to rent in Greenwich and other parts of London and the UK.
Mr Hilton said: "It's not the tenant's fault [if properties are repossessed]; it's where the landlords have effectively defrauded and let their properties on bog-standard residential mortgages."
