Mayor urged to pursue cross-river tram plan
Members of the London Assembly have urged Mayor Boris Johnson to find funding to pay for Transport for London to introduce the proposed Cross River Tram.
The project was discussed in the assembly following the presentation of a report based on a public seminar held on the matter last month.
At present, political parties are divided over the scheme, with the Conservatives opposed.
However, if Boris Johnson can be persuaded for the case and the tram does go ahead, it would provide a link from Euston Station to Waterloo
There would be further connections with Camden and Kings Cross to the north of the river and with Brixton and Peckham to the south.
Such a development may have benefits for those renting in the London boroughs of Camden and Lambeth.
The capital already has a tram service - the Croydon Tramlink - covering parts of South London that are not covered by the Tube network.
Transport for London is also proposing an extension to the Tramlink network running to Crystal Palace.
