Mayor proposes boost for London economy
Boris Johnson has unveiled a series of proposals designed to stimulate business in the capital.
The mayor has called on the government to make it easier for small businesses to win contracts with public sector bodies, in the same way such enterprises have been encouraged to become involved in bidding for work associated with the 2012 Olympics.
Mr Johnson also suggested easing regulation in the City and offering tax deals to foreign companies to ensure London remains an attractive base for international commerce.
The Conservative politician said such steps would help the capital to cope with the impact of the economic slowdown.
He added that he intended to press ahead with the Crossrail project and to continue to provide support for the London Underground network.
News of the plans came just days after the mayor revealed proposals to help boost the local economies of outer London boroughs such as Greenwich, Harrow and Ealing.
