Mayor praises London volunteers
Those living in London have been benefiting from the efforts of volunteers over the Christmas period, it has been noted.
Mayor Boris Johnson hailed people who have been giving up their time to help others, observing that thousands have been doing so in the capital.
"Their incredible efforts have ensured that many of the most vulnerable people in [London] have been given food, shelter and a friendly face this Christmas," said Mr Johnson, adding that it made him "truly proud to be a Londoner".
Over the Christmas period visitor organisation Visit London encouraged work with three charities in particular - Age Concern, the Salvation Army and Crisis.
And it noted that more than 6,500 volunteers supported the latter cause alone in 2007.
Earlier this month Visit London staged a campaign to promote the capital, with the lion statues in Trafalgar Square being brought to life through animation and projections.
