Mayor plans celebration of London
A month-long celebration of the past, present and future of London is to be held in June, the mayor has announced.
Boris Johnson confirmed that a range of activities will be taking place for Story of London, including a number of events at the Royal Academy of Music.
In addition, the capital's outer boroughs will receive attention through schemes to highlight smaller museums and attractions.
Commenting on the plans, historian and broadcaster Dan Snow remarked: "London's history is overwhelming. Every building, every inch of the Thames, every park or common has millennia of stories, some are well known, others are buried."
In addition to music, fashion and art is set to be a key focus of the event, while jousting will also be held at Eltham Palace, in Greenwich.
Yesterday Southwark's Pottersfield Park was the venue of London's first Russian festival - known as a Maslenitsa - featuring live folk music and theatrical presentations.
