Mayor approves Tower Hamlets redevelopment
The borough of Tower Hamlets is set to benefit from major redevelopment as plans for Canary Wharf have been approved.
London mayor Boris Johnson pledged that building in the capital would continue, as he gave the green light to three major proposals.
"I am determined to do everything I can to minimise the impact of the economic downturn and ensure that I use my powers to support the development sector in particular," he said.
Among the plans is a new Crossrail station, which is to incorporate the Docklands Light Railway as well as the London Underground.
The borough is also set to be boosted by the redevelopment of Wood Wharf, which will see the creation of six office buildings and 1,700 homes.
And the third project is a 150-room hotel, dubbed Newfoundland.
Tower Hamlets was recently selected to receive £4.68 million of government funding as part of a bid to promote healthy living.
