Londoners set for New Year celebrations
Police in London are set for one of their busiest nights of the year, as residents prepare to take part in New Year's Eve celebrations across the capital.
They have been advised not to drive, as roads will be closed from 18:00 GMT.
Instead, Londoners can take advantage of free public transport after the festivities, as Transport for London has announced that there will be no charge for most services between 23:45 and 04:30 GMT.
Superintendent Brian Pearce predicted that large crowds of people will be celebrating, stating: "With such a world-class fireworks display being staged the centre of town is more popular than ever before."
He also warned Londoners to keep a watchful eye on their belongings in order to prevent crime.
Research by the Post Office has found that many people across the UK are choosing to stay at home tonight, with 63 per cent preferring to spend the evening with friends and family, rather than visit bars and clubs.
