London bus security improving, says TfL
Londoners have been benefiting from increased security on the capital's buses, it has been revealed.
Transport for London (TFL) has announced that Operation Ridgeway - a drive to increase police presence - has yielded over 1,000 arrests.
Pickpocketing and anti-social behaviour were the main targets of the scheme, with two phases being carried out at times when offences tend to rise.
The first took place between October 20th and November 16th throughout the capital, with approximately 500 arrests by 200 officers as the body aimed to reduce problems at Halloween and around Bonfire Night.
More than 600 people were then detained in the run-up to Christmas, as the second phase was conducted in several boroughs including Camden and Haringey.
"These patrols provide an important reassurance for the millions of law-abiding passengers who should not have to suffer from the mindless behaviour of the few," said Mayor of London Boris Johnson.
Camden Council recently urged residents to help improve the environment by adopting a range eco-friendly measures.
