London bus journeys 'now more pleasurable'
A drive to make bus travel more appealing to Londoners has been hailed as a success.
Operation Bus Tag was launched in 2004 and has been found to be effective in reducing graffiti, seat damage and arson, among other offences.
Transport for London noted that the arrest rate has quadrupled, with 95 per cent of cases leading to convictions.
And it is now being extended to tackle pickpockets and passengers that are violent towards drivers.
Welcoming the news, Mayor Boris Johnson remarked: "Londoners deserve to travel on buses that are free of foul scribblings and in a condition that will make them a pleasure to use."
Leaflets are set to be distributed to schools, in order to discourage children from committing criminal damage on buses.
A new bus station opened in the White City over the weekend, providing easy access to the White City Estate and the new Westfield shopping development.
