London boroughs to receive government funding
Over £17 million is to be provided by the government to help London boroughs meet challenges presented by the recession, it has been revealed.
Local government minister John Healey confirmed the share that each council will receive, with the City of Westminster set to benefit from over £4.4 million.
He explained that local authorities are "best placed" to decide how to use the money in order to stimulate economic growth and ensure that people remain in employment.
"Different parts of the country will be affected by this downturn in different ways and to different degrees," Mr Healey remarked.
All but seven of the capital's boroughs will receive a share of the funding, with over £2.6 million earmarked for Southwark and £1.5 million going towards helping residents of Ealing.
Last month the government confirmed that an additional £326 million is to be made available for the construction of the Olympic Village in the borough of Newham.
