London bike hire scheme to begin in July
London mayor Boris Johnson has announced that a scheme to get more people cycling in the city will begin at the end of July.
There will be over 400 locations across the city from which Londoners can hire a bicycle, with around 6,000 bikes available to customers. From as little as £1 per day, commuters can opt for a greener way to get around.
Johnson is himself is a keen cyclist and is regularly seen riding from his Islington home to work and is excited by what the project might achieve.
"In just four months, London will glitter with the twinkling dynamo lights of thousands of shiny cycle hire bikes," he added.
It is the latest project to get commuters to substitute cars for bicycles. Last September, roads in the heart of London were open only to cyclists as part of the Skyride event which saw thousands take to the street on two wheels.
This news may be encouraging to people enthusiastic about cycling to work or for leisure, including those looking for property to rent in the London borough of Southwark, or elsewhere in the city.
