Is the government 'out of touch' with rental sector?
More should be done to help the private rental sector, one sector commentator has claimed, as the government is currently in danger of being "out of touch" with the industry.
Alan Ward, chairman of the Residential Landlords Association, said that the government does not understand the true motives behind many landlords' decisions to invest in property.
"They recently demonstrated this when they decided to treat holiday lets as unearned income, whereas we have argued the exact opposite for years - that the whole private rented sector should be treated as earned income," he added.
Mr Ward's comments may be of interest to people looking for flats to rent in Fulham or elsewhere in London as house prices in the capital continue to rise.
The Association of Residential Letting Agents recently called for the government to increase its help for landlords in the coming pre-Budget report.
It suggested the introduction of capital allowances for landlords improving housing stock over a certain age.
