Interest in buy-to-let sector grows
There were almost twice as many Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA) members who reported that more landlords bought property in the second quarter of 2009, compared to the opening three month-period.
A statement from ARLA cited the low interest rates as one of the reasons why landlords' attention has again returned to the buy-to-let industry.
The Bank of England has held the base rate at 0.5 per cent since March 2009.
Further governmental focus on the private rented sector has also been noted in recent months, with Prime Minister Gordon Brown naming John Healey as the new Housing and Planning Minister, and Ian Austin as the man responsible for landlords and the rental world as a whole.
ARLA operations manager Ian Potter said: "Each quarter we glimpse a bit more activity as the bargains get snapped up and confidence is restored in buy-to-let as a viable long-term investment vehicle, particularly if the returns are rising too."
